As the weather gets a little warmer, families can start looking for outdoor activities to enjoy together. Birdwatching is a fantastic hobby for parents to enjoy with their children, especially if they are already nature-lovers.
Don’t know where to begin? Caroline Offord, from the RSPB, has written us a special guide to birdwatching for kids, that you can download and give to older children, or read together with younger kids.
Designed to get children excited about spotting birds in their local environment, the guide gives them everything they need to know to get started. So, if you’re stuck for ideas on how to keep the kids occupied this Easter – why not spare a little time one day to get your kids birding and see how much fun it can be?

Check out the RSPB’s brilliant website for kids www.rspb.org.uk/youth where you can find all the RSPB’s latest news and lots of fun things to do and make.
The RSPB’s main site also has plenty of resources to help you and your children with their birdwatching endeavours – such as an A-Z list of UK birds and a handy bird identifier, which will help you to work out which species and type of bird you’ve spotted.
Joining the RSPB is also a good idea if you’d like to take your child’s new-found hobby further. Take a look at their list of membership benefits – with options for adult, child or family memberships on offer; www.rspb.org.uk/supporting/join/benefits.asp
